All-New Encyclopedia of
Organic Gardening:
The Indispensable Resource for Every Gardener
by Barbara Ellis, Fern Bradley
Hardcover (1992) |

Hardcover (1992) |
This all-new, authoritative edition of the
1978 classic -- which sold more than 625,000 copies -- provides practical, up-to-date
information for every gardener, beginner and veteran alike. Includes hundreds
of how-to illustrations and step-by-step techniques, and features an easy-to-use A-to-Z
format with more than 420 entries.
Attitudes have changed in the 32 years since the first edition, and the idea of eschewing
chemical pesticides and fertilizers in favor of compost piles, crop rotation, and other
such means of growing healthy plants has broader acceptance. The Encyclopedia sets forth
the basics, with entries on a large number of plants and their cultivation, soil
preparation methods, pests, garden plans, etc. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc.

The
Organic Gardener's Home Reference:
A Plant-By-Plant Guide to Growing Fresh, Healthy Food
by Tanya Denckla
Paperback (1994) |
| How-To Editor's Recommended Book.
This is truly a one-stop comprehensive guide to organic gardening: it is a big book filled
with techniques, definitions, solutions to gardening problems, and a huge listing of
organic gardening resources. It's one of the most thorough guides I have seen
for organic gardeners -- it is well indexed and annotated, and covers all climate zones
and growing conditions. If this book doesn't get your motor running about the
garden, well, maybe you'll want to try a different hobby. I think it should be
a part of any true gardener's library, covered with notes, muddy fingerprints, and with
the well-worn pages. |
